Vijay Kelkar, Chairman
A Ph.D. in development economics from the University of California at Berkeley, he joined the senior faculty of the Administrative Staff College of India in Hyderabad. After a brief stint as a teacher in Nepal, Kelkar joined the Planning Commission in 1973. From the Planning Commission, Kelkar joined the commerce ministry in 1977 as economic adviser, and has since then served in various posts including secretary to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister between 1985 and 1988. In 1994 he came back to the government as petroleum secretary. He was made finance secretary in 1998. He was an executive director in the IMF, overseeing its operations in South Asia during 2000-2002. He is now the Chairman of the 13th Finance Commission. |

Shubhashis Gangopadhyay, Managing Trustee
Shubhashis Gangopadhyay got his PhD in Economics from Cornell University, USA, in 1983. He joined the Indian Statistical Institute and taught there till 2002. He took over as founder-director of IDF, an independent research organization, in 2002. He was awarded a doctorate (honoris causa) by the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in October 2006. He is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Emerging Market Finance (Sage Publications), and an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Stability (Elsevier). He is a member of the Board of the Centre for Analytical Finance (Indian School of Business, Hyderabad); Bankruptcy Task Force of IPD, Columbia University and the International Advisory Board of the Centre for Law and Economics of Financial Markets (Copenhagen Business School). He has been a member of South Asia Chief Economist’s Advisory Council of the World Bank. He is also the founder-President of the Society for the Promotion of Game Theory and its Applications. He was also Adviser to the Finance Minister, Government of India. |
Naresh Chandra
He studied at the University of Allahabad and obtained a Masters degree in Mathematics. He taught briefly and then entered the Indian Administrative Service. He retired as the Cabinet Secretary for the Government of India.Thereafter has been a Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister of India, Governor of the State of Gujarat and an Ambassador to the U.S. |

Avinash
Dixit
Avinash Dixit is the Sherrerd University Professor of Economics at Princeton University. His research interests have included microeconomic theory, game theory, international trade, industrial organization, growth and development theories, public economics, and political economy. His book publications include Theory of International Trade (with Victor Norman), Thinking Strategically (with Barry Nalebuff), Investment Under Uncertainty (with Robert Pindyck), The Making of Economic Policy: A Transaction Cost Politics Perspective, and Games of Strategy (with Susan Skeath). He has also published numerous articles in professional journals and collective volumes. He was President of the Econometric Society in 2001, and a Vice-President of the American Economic Association in 2002. |
R.A. Mashelkar
R.A. Mashelkar was formerly the Director General of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). Dr. Mashelkar is an outstanding chemical engineering scientist. Prior to joining CSIR, Dr. Mashelkar was the Director of National Chemical Laboratory (NCL) in Pune. Since 1995, when Dr. Mashelkar took over as DG, CSIR has made a transformation to being a user focused, performance driven and accountable organization, an achievement which has recently been heralded as one of the ten most significant achievements of Indian Science and Technology in the twentieth century. Dr. Mashelkar is only the third Indian engineer to have been elected as Fellow of Royal Society (FRS), London in the twentieth century. He has won over 40 awards and medals, which include prestigious awards like the JRD Tata Corporate Leadership Award, Jawaharlal Nehru Technology Award and Lifetime Achievement Award by Indian Science Congress. Sixteen universities across the world have honoured him with honorary doctorates, which include Universities of London, Salford, Pretoria, Wisconsin, and Delhi. In 1997, Business India named him as being among the 50 path-breakers in post-independent India. In the post-liberalized India, Dr. Mashelkar has played a critical role in shaping India's Science & Technology policies. The President of India honoured Dr. Mashelkar with Padmashri (1991) and with Padmabhushan (2000), two of the highest civilian honours, in recognition of his contribution to nation building. |

N.R.Narayana Murthy
He obtained his Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Mysore in 1967 and his Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur in 1969. He founded Infosys in 1981 along with six software professionals. He is the Chair of the Board and Chief Mentor of Infosys. He was a member of the operating system team that designed real time operating system for handling air cargo for Charles de Gaulle airport, Paris. He was the President of National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) from 1992 to 1994. Mr. Murthy is a member of the National Information Technology Task Force of India, and also of the Prime Minister's Council on Trade and Industry. He is a Director on the Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). |

Rajendra Kumar Pachauri
Rajendra Kumar Pachauri is the Chair of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the scientific intergovernmental body that provides decision-makers and the public with an objective source of information about climate change. He is also Director General of TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), a major independent research organisation providing knowledge on energy, environment, forestry, biotechnology, and the conservation of natural resources. Dr Pachauri is a prominent researcher on environmental subjects, recognised internationally for his efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change. Since July 2009 he has also been Director, Yale Climate and Energy Institute. He is active in several international forums dealing with the subject of climate change and its policy dimensions. He was awarded the second-highest civilian award in India, the 'Padma Vibhushan' in January 2008 by the President of India and received the 'Officier De La LégionD’Honneur' from the Government of France in 2006. He has been conferred with ‘The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star’ by His Majesty Akihito, Emperor of Japan, the ‘Commander of the Order of the White Rose of Finland’ by the Prime Minister of Finland and the ‘Commander of the Order of Leopold II’ by the King of the Belgium. |

Indira Rajaraman
Indira Rajaraman holds a BA (Honours) degree from Delhi University, 1966; MA from Cornell University, USA, 1968; and Ph.D from Cornell University, USA, awarded at the mid-year Commencement in January 1974. Her major specialisations include development economics, and minor specializations were economic theory and public finance. She is Honorary Visiting Professor, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi since February 2010. She was a Member of the Thirteenth Finance Commission from 2007 to 2009, the first woman to be so honoured. She held the Reserve Bank of India Chair at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, Delhi, was on the Economics faculty of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. She was a Visiting Scholar at Harvard and Stanford Universities, and taught at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.She held the Reserve Bank of India Chair at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, Delhi (1994-2007), and was on the Economics faculty of the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (1976-94). |

Karti Sandilya
He holds a B.A. (Honours) degree from Delhi University and an LLB from the University of Madras. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1967 and served in Argentina, Switzerland and Bangladesh, in addition to assignments in the Ministries of External Affairs, Commerce and Finance. He moved to the Asian Development Bank in 1986 and worked in corporate strategy and policy. In 1995, he wrote ADB's policy on good governance and, in 1999, led the development of its poverty reduction strategy. He has recently retired from ADB, as Resident Director of its Washington, D.C. office. |

Amartya Sen
Educated at Presidency College, Calcutta and Trinity College, Cambridge, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics in 1998. He is also an outstanding teacher. He is currently the Master at Trinity College, Cambridge and has been on the faculty of Harvard University, Oxford University, University of London, Delhi University and Jadavpur University, Calcutta. |
