Shubhashis Gangopadhyay
Shubhashis Gangopadhyay got his PhD in Economics from Cornell University, USA, in 1983. He joined the Indian Statistical Institute and taught there till 2002. He took over as founder-director of IDF, an independent research organization, in 2002. He was awarded a doctorate (honoris causa) by the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, in October 2006. He is the Chief Editor of the Journal of Emerging Market Finance (Sage Publications), and an associate editor of the Journal of Financial Stability (Elsevier). He is a member of the Board of the Centre for Analytical Finance (Indian School of Business, Hyderabad); Bankruptcy Task Force of IPD, Columbia University and the International Advisory Board of the Centre for Law and Economics of Financial Markets (Copenhagen Business School). He has been a member of South Asia Chief Economist’s Advisory Council of the World Bank. He is also the founder-President of the Society for the Promotion of Game Theory and its Applications. He was also Adviser to the Finance Minister, Government of India.
 
Namrata Ghosh
Namrata Ghosh is a post graduate in Economics from Delhi School of Economics. She has worked with Oxford University Press and Genpact prior to joining IDF. At IDF, she is involved with research in areas of poverty, financial inclusion, microfinance institutions, market integration, and small area estimation. She is also editing a journal, Review of Market Integration, brought out by IDF thrice in a year.
Amir Ullah Khan
Amir Ullah Khan is an Electronics and Communication Engineer from Osmania University. He studied at the Institute of Rural Management at Anand and has a PhD in Economics and Business Studies from the Jamia Millia University. He has worked as Researcher for the Ministry of Finance, Government of India and the UNDP at Project LARGE (Legal Adjustments and Reforms for Globalising the Economy). He then was Academic Head at the Indian School of Finance and Management, after which he worked with Encyclopedia Britannica as Executive Director and Editor and then with the India Development Foundation. He is now Dean and Director Research at the Bangalore Management Academy, Associate Fellow at the India Development Foundation and Adjunct Professor of Business and Law at the Edith Cowan University. Amir also teaches at the Centre for Executive Education at the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Delhi. He has worked on various research projects for the European Commission, National Council for Applied Economic Research, Planning Commission and the World Bank and has written on Economics and policy issues. His latest book for SAGE is titled The WTO deadlocked: Understanding the Dynamics of International Trade.
   
Bibhu Mohapatra
Bibhu Mohapatra has been working on transparency and accountability in Indian politics especially through popular participation in elections reduce the prevalence of criminality and corruption in the electoral process. First with the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative and then as National Coordinator of the Association for Democratic Reforms, he has been working on the elction process, informed participation of voters, and dissemination of details of candidates among voters. He has been associated with the Democracy Project sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and Liberty Institute in the capacity of a Senior Consultant. This project aimed at creating an information pool for the voter to aid her make a rational choice during election and monitor performance of the elected representatives during non election period.
   
Bappaditya Mukhopadhyay
Bappaditya Mukhopadhyay obtained his PhD from the Indian Statistical Institute, He has been a Professor of Finance at the Management Development Institute at MDI. He is Managing Editor of the Journal of Emerging Market Finance. He has also taught as visiting faculty at the Vienna School of Economics and Business Administration, Austria, University of Auckland, New Zealand, Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata, Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi and University of Ulm, Germany.
M. R. Saluja
Masters degree in Mathematics from Delhi University and a Masters in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute. In 1960, he joined the faculty of the Indian Statistical Institute. He retired from the Institute as a Professor in 1994. Thereafter he worked as a Project Consultant for one year in the Planning Commission followed by seven years as a Senior Consultant at the National Council for Applied Economic Research. He has published, in reputed journals, a number of papers relating to database, input-output techniques, social accounting matrices, tourist satellite accounts and poverty. He has written three books, Indian Official Statistical System and Input-Output Tables for India: Concepts, Construction and Applications. The third book relates to the construction and applications of Social Accounting Matrices (SAM) for the Indian economy for the year 1994-95, 1997-98 and 2002-2003.Recently a 73 Production sectors and 10 household expenditure level SAM was constructed for the year 2003-04, for the planning commission. Guided in the construction of Input output table for the three states of India. Engaged in the construction of Input-Out table for the Indian economy for the year 2003-04, Central statistical organization. Impact of exports of services on various sectors of the economy and various household levels is being analyzed by using SAM model. The revised methodology for estimations of incidence of poverty at state level is being worked out for Planning Commission He has been an advisor to both the national and various state governments. He is a Fellow at the India Development Foundation since April 2003.
 
Sonam Sethi
Sonam Sethi ,is a medical doctor, with a MBBS degree from Government Medical College, Nagpur and a M.D. in Community Medicine from B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad. She has been involved in teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students in B.J Medical College, Ahmedabad and Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College, Delhi. She has also worked with the Department of Rehabilitation at Safdarjung hospital on a disability project by the Indian Council of Medical Research.She is a fellow at the India Development Foundation and is involved in research in Public Health.
   
Bhupesh Yadav 
Bhupesh Yadav graduated in Commerce from Andhra University. He then completed a postgraduate diploma in Finance and Marketing from SIES college of Management studies, Mumbai. He has worked for 5 years with Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) before joining India Development Foundation three years ago. His areas of interest are construction of Social Accounting Matrix (SAM), Input-Output tables for India & states and working with large data sets like Census, NSS, ASI etc. Recently a 73 sector all India SAM was constructed for the year 2003-04, for the Planning Commission. He is also involved in the construction of Input-Output table of the Indian economy for the year 2003-04 for the Central Statistical Organization, in Studying the impact of services sector exports on the economy and household using the SAM model for UNCTAD and in Calculation of revised methodology for estimating incidence of poverty at state level for the Planning Commission and in constructing a village level SAM for one village in Gujarat.

Tiksha Kaul has a Masters in Economics from the University of New Hampshire (USA). While working towards her masters, she also assisted the economics department as a teaching/research assistant. Prior to her masters, she was employed with ICICI Bank for two years as a treasury analyst at their headquarters in Mumbai. She also posseses a bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Sardar Patel College of Engineering, affiliated to Mumbai University. Her main research interests include development economics, economics of institutions and econometric modeling.
Purti Sharma
Purti Sharma holds an M.Phil in Economics from H.P. University and Master of Business Economics from G.N.D. University. Prior to joining IDF, she was associated in research work with PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, working on north Indian states, agriculture and trade issues. Her ongoing research includes studies on Information Technology, poverty, price indices, small area estimates, financial inclusion and competition law. Currently, she is working with India Development Foundation as a Research Associate. She writes regularly for the Financial Express, an Indian daily.
Niloo Kumari
Niloo Kumari has an M.Sc in Economics from Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai. She has a B.A in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. She did her internship from Institute for Human Development, Delhi .Her area of interest in research lie in development economics. Currently she is working with India Development Foundation as a Research Associate.
Suganthi Dhanapal
Suganthi Dhanapal has masters in economics from Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai and got her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Madras University. During her internship, she worked as a research assistant at IGIDR on a project: Growing Rural-Urban Disparities in the Districts of Maharastra, in collaboration with National Institute for Rural Development. Currently she is working with India Development Foundation as a Research Associate.
Jothi Arumugam
Jothi Arumugam graduated in Commerce from Delhi University. She is pursuing postgraduate diploma from International Management Institute, Delhi. Her work involves construction of Input-Output tables and Social Accounting Matrix (SAM), and studying the fertilizer subsidy regime in India. She has been recently involved in constructing input-output table (26 sectors) for IDE-Japan on the basis of distribution of employment by status and income. Currently, she is working with India Development Foundation as Research Assistant.

Aarti Bharadwaj
Aarti G Bharadwaj got her undergraduate degree in Mathematics from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University and Masters in Quantitative Economics from Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi. She has worked in the Energy Reforms division in TERI on forecasting demand for electricity and tariff setting for electricity utilities. Currently, she is working for IDF.
   
Vandana Kumar
Vandana Kumar is a Fellow at the India Development Foundation. She is a medical doctor, with an MBBS degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and an MBA in Health Care Administration from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. She has worked as a consultant at the Indian Business Trust for HIV/AIDS, set up by the Confederation of Indian Industry. She has also worked as a clinician in private hospitals in Delhi. She is currently involved with research in public health and health systems.
   
Rajesh Chakrabarti
Rajesh Chakrabarti got his Ph.D. in Management from the University of California at Los Angeles, USA. He obtained his Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM-Ahmedabad after having graduated in Economics from the Presidency College, Calcutta. He joined The Industrial Finance Corporation of India at New Delhi in the year 1993 as a Management Trainee. Rajesh worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the Anderson School, University of California, Los Angeles and as an Assistant Professor of Finance, Faculty of Business, University of Alberta, Canada. He was a Visiting Scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank, Atlanta. He is now Assistant Professor of Finance, DuPree College of Management, Georgia Institute of Technology. He has written several articles in refereed journals. He has also written a book,” The Asian Managers Handbook of E-Commerce " (with V. Kardile) and several book chapters.
 
Praveen K. Chaudhry
Praveen K. Chaudhry received his PhD in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania. He specializes in Security / Strategic Studies, Political Economy, Global Governance and Comparative Politics. Dr. Chaudhry was a Visiting Fellow at the Office of the Executive Director (India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Bhutan), International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC, and taught at Swarthmore College, Lafayette College, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Delhi. His works have appeared in The World Economy, Journal of Development Studies, Finance and Development, Economic and Political Weekly, and G24 Papers. He is currently working on two book projects "Security, Development and Democracy: A Search for Growth" and "The US and the IMF: Conditionality and Negotiations." Dr. Chaudhry has carried out extensive research / interviews and lectured in Asia, Europe and South America and currently teaches at Ohio University.
   
Rekha Dey
Rekha Dey graduated in Economics from St. Xavier's College, Ranchi. With a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Management, she has work experience of 5 years having worked for PHDCCI, Hindustan Times, Mediascope Publicitas and Tata Infomedia. She is pursing an Executive Master in International Business, a course for working professionals, from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, New Delhi. Currently, she is with the India Development Foundation as a Research Associate.
 
Arnab Kumar Hazra
Arnab Kumar is an economist and his specialization is in Law and Economics. He has worked and published nationally and internationally in the area of legal reforms, natural resource economics and finance. He has been a staff consultant to the Asian Development Bank, Fellow with the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, Economic Advisor to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and Consultant to the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), New Delhi. He was educated at Ram Krishna Mission Residential College, Narendrapur, St. Xavier's College (Kolkata) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi).
Robert Jensen
Jensen is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. He is also a fellow at the Centre for International Development at Harvard University and the National Bureau of Economic Research. He received his Ph.D. in economics at Princeton University and his research interests include education, health, fertility and gender.
Anirban Kar
Anirban Kar was awarded his Ph.D. by the Indian Statistical Institute, New Delhi. He then went on to do his post-doctoral research at the Sabanci University, Istanbul . Anirban works as a consultant in The Open University, U.K., and has been doing his research on “ Integration of Claim in Health Economics ”. His visit to IDF was in connection with this project. His areas of interest include Game theory, Social choice, Network formation and Axiomatic theory of equity and justice.  
 
Prerna Makkar
Prerna Makkar has a BA in Economics from St. Stephen's College and an MBA from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. She is currently pursuing a Master in Public Administration in International Development at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before joining the India Development Foundation, Prerna worked for over five years in management consulting in diverse areas such as business strategy, operations improvement, organization design, and change management.

At India Development Foundation, Prerna worked as a Fellow on various research initiatives, and played a key role in initiating the foundation's work in global health. In addition, she program managed a large grant from the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, for a program that undertook pioneering work to pilot a health smart card technology solution, and set-up industry-funded HIV/AIDS treatment centers in India.
 
Mukul Majumdar
Mukul Majumdar is the H.T. Warshow and I. Warshow Professor of Economics at Cornell University. He is a 1970 Ph.D. from the University of California at Berkeley. He is an economic theorist whose current areas of research are complex dynamical systems; inter-temporal resource allocation under uncertainty; problems involving non-convexity and economics of exhaustible resources.  
 
Bharat Ramaswami
Bharat Ramaswami earned a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1989. He joined the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi in 1991 where he rose to become a full Professor. He has also held visiting appointments at universities in Canada, Sweden and the U.S.A. He has researched issues in the economics of risk and insurance, commodity markets, food policy and technology supply in agriculture. His recent papers include analyses of area-yield crop insurance schemes (forthcoming, American Journal of Agricultural Economics), reform of food subsidies (forthcoming, Review of Development Economics), public intervention in food markets (Food Policy, 2002) and portfolio choice models with labour income (Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, 2003). Currently, he is engaged in research on commodity futures markets, contract farming, regulation of biotechnology products and the impact of economic reforms on employment and poverty.
Subrata Sarkar
Subrata Sarkar is an Associate Professor at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research Mumbai, India. He has a Ph.D. in Economics, with specialization in Econometrics, from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, USA. His areas of interest are applied econometrics, corporate finance and governance, productivity and efficiency studies.
   
Manisha G. Singh  
Manisha G. Singh has a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland at College Park, U.S.A.. She has a B.A. in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College and an M.B.A. from the Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. She is an applied economist with research in development, labor, and macroeconomics. Recent research is related to employment adjustment and firm dynamics. Ongoing research at the India Development Foundation includes studies on the use of IT products and services in India, employment opportunities in India, and poverty and inequality in India. Her consulting assignments include studies on India and on international comparisons, chiefly with The World Bank, Washington D.C., U.S.A.. Her work is published in refereed journals. She has worked as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Maryland. She also teaches at the Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi.
 
Nirvikar Singh
Nirvikar Singh is Professor of Economics and Co-Director of the Center for Global, International and Regional Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He was also a co-founder of the Santa Cruz Center for International Economics. In 2007-08, he will serve as Special Advisor to the UCSC Chancellor, working on developing professional education in Silicon Valley. In 1998, Professor Singh organized one of the first major conferences held in the United States on Indian economic reform. He received his PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and his BSc and MSc from the London School of Economics, where he was awarded the Allyn Young Prize, Gonner Prize and Ely Devons Prize. His current research topics include electronic commerce, business strategy, information technology and development, federalism and political economy, and economic reform in India. He has authored over 100 research papers and his book, The Political Economy of Indian Federalism, co-authored with M. Govinda Rao, has recently been published by Oxford University Press.
 
Marta Vanduzer-Snow
Marta Vanduzer-Snow is the founding director of Project Change: An International Education Initiative and is an Independent Scholar based in New York and New Delhi. She specializes in Security / Strategic Studies, Political Economy, Global Governance and Comparative Politics. Ms. Vanduzer-Snow studied at Lafayette College, Bard College and New York University. Her works have appeared in Finance and Development, Bard Politics, G24 Papers. She is currently working on two book projects "Security, Development and Democracy: A Search for Growth" and "The US and the IMF: Conditionality and Negotiations". She has carried out extensive research / interviews and lectured in Asia, Europe and South America.
Wilima Wadhwa
Wilima Wadhwa did her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of California, Irvine (UCI), USA. She is the Executive Director of Society for Economic Research and Financial Analysis (SERFA) and teaches at UCI in their spring quarter. She has also taught at the Delhi Centre of the Indian Statistical Institute and Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is an applied econometrician working in the areas of macroeconomics, monetary economics, and development. She has consulted with various ministries and international organizations on macro-econometric and other studies on the Indian economy.

  Latest Journal Issues

The second issue of Journal of Infrastructure Development (JID)

and the third issue of Review of Market Integration (RMI) came out in the month of June.

While JID focused on infrastructure issues across the world, RMI had an issue focussing on labour markets in India.
