Avinash Dixit, the John J. Sherrerd University Professor of Economics at Princeton University, gave a lecture on ‘Game Theory’ at IDF.

"Innovation, Biotechnology and Patent Participation in the USA"
Nathan P Letts gave a presentation at IDF on the patent laws and procedures in US. Dr. Letts brings to diaDexus over thirteen years of experience in biotechnology patent law. Most recently, Dr. Letts was a patent attorney at Pennie & Edmonds LLP where he spent nearly five years in the biotechnology practice group in New York City. Dr. Letts feel that the system of patents is well defined to a large extent, but at the same time there is a large scope of improving it further.

Dr.Uma Nambiar, CEO of eHealth Foundation made a presentation on August 23, 2004 on Information and Communication Technologies in Rural Health Care. eHealth Foundation is working by combining social activism with market solutions in order to alleviate the problems of access and quality of health care service to help those isolated by distance and lack of resources.

The evolution of policy in the South African pharmaceutical sector in the context of the TRIPS agreement
On 22nd of August at 10.30 am at the India Development Foundation, Stephen Gelb spoke on TRIPS and drugs. Stephen is an adviser to the South African Government and Executive Director at The EDGE Institute for economic policy research based in Johannesburg.
 
On financial markets, Professor Bernardo Bátiz-Lazo of the Open Business School 
Professor Batiz is working on a joint project with OU colleagues, Merryll Lynch (Europe) and AITEG to establish whether the pace and direction of mergers and acquisitions (M&As) points towards either globalisation or integration as the main process that drives European international companies in selected industries (banking, ethical pharmaceuticals [including bio-technology] and internet providers).
 
Round table on economic reform  and the New Zealand experience: Rt Hon Jim Bolger
Mr Jim Bolger Chairman of the Board of New Zealand Post Ltd, is a former Prime Minister of New Zealand (1990 - 1997) who presided over a period of intensive economic reform. IDF arranged a roundtable for a selective gathering on the 7th of August at the Conference Room at 249 F, Udyog Vihar, Phase IV Gurgaon to draw on Mr Bolger's experience of economic reform. Mr Bolger maintains a close interest in international trade in agriculture, both in relation to the New Zealand experience and in his currrent position as Chairman of the World Agricultural Forum.

Ben Boothe, an economic consultant has been active throughout the world on economic restructuring programmes. His background is banking and finance, having worked with Merill Lynch of wall street, and also as the founder of several banks in the USA. He is the author of 5 books and is currently President of Boothe and Associates Inc. of Ft. Worth, Texas.
